The Memo Block is one of the iconic products that defines ITO BINDERY. At first glance, it appears to be an extremely simple item—but it is, in fact, the result of our refined bookbinding techniques and the expertise of skilled craftsmen. It is an original ITO BINDERY product, developed and launched in 2009.
Background
ITO BINDERY was founded in 1938 as a bookbinding company specializing in promotional printed materials such as catalogs. As the paper industry began to shrink with time, we envisioned creating products that could be handed directly to end users. This led to the launch of our own original brand.
In 2008, the city of Sumida initiated a local design and manufacturing collaboration project, and we joined without hesitation. It was through this project that we encountered the design firm ●TENKEI Project, and after a year of development, the first product born from this collaboration was the Memo Block.
What sets the Memo Block apart is the striking contrast between the body of the pad and its thick backing board―its sculptural side profile. For us, working in bookbinding, the fresh-cut edge of paper and its smooth, refined surface are familiar pleasures. With Memo Block, we hoped to share that sensation with a wider audience.
Even after more than a decade, each Memo Block continues to be carefully handmade by artisans in our own Tokyo factory.
Specifications
Each Memo Block consists of 350 sheets of premium writing paper, bound at the top using a traditional glue-brush method. The three non-glued edges are precisely trimmed to create a beautifully clean finish. The paper is smooth and easy to write on, and each sheet peels off effortlessly.

Red is available exclusively in size S. The first sheet uses a vibrant felt-textured paper, while the inner sheets are lightly colored for comfortable writing.
