Together with our community and environment
Sumida is a district with a strong manufacturing culture, where a wide range of industries come together.
We have continued our manufacturing while growing together with this community. Our work exists in close connection with people, materials, and resources, and these relationships are part of our everyday life. The SDGs reflect the values and practices we have naturally carried forward over time.
We will continue to stay close to our community and the environment, always considering what we can do and carrying our manufacturing into the future.

Passing craftsmanship on to the next generation

Our manufacturing is built on the skills and experience passed down from craftsmen who have supported the factory for many years. On the production floor, we work every day to train the next generation and pass on bookbinding techniques so these skills continue into the future. The factory, once mainly supported by male craftsmen, is now a place where both men and women are actively involved.
Each person brings their own skills and sensibilities as we continue striving to create better products.
Experiencing manufacturing

Since 2024, we have held workshops open to a wide range of participants, from children to adults. These workshops began from our wish for visitors to experience the enjoyment of manufacturing while being close to the bookbinding factory. Many participants come from overseas, and today the experience has become not only a chance to engage in making, but also a place to share cultures and learn from one another across generations and countries through conversation. We hope that the time spent creating, together with the finished work, will remain as a lasting memory and that the experience of making will lead to new challenges.
Protecting the earth
Protecting both the environment and our products

In 2019, we replaced the plastic packaging of all our products with paper packaging. Much of the cushioning material used for shipping is made from paper reused within our factory. We place importance on reducing environmental impact while maintaining product quality, and continue our manufacturing with this balance in mind.
Resource circulation — toward new possibilities for paper

Sorting offcuts and waste paper by type

Entrusting them to recycling companies
Offcuts and waste paper produced during the manufacturing process are carefully sorted within the factory, including white paper, colored paper, thick paper, and specialty papers. Since our founding, these materials have been entrusted daily to recycling companies, contributing to the circulation of recycled paper.
Products using recycled materials and the possibilities of recycled paper

Mag Note made from paper containing more than 50% recycled magazine paper

Drawing Pad, Memo Block, Pencil Stand, and Calendar use materials made from recycled cardboard paper. We also develop products using recycled paper.
Connecting with the community
A place that connects people and manufacturing

In 2023, we opened a shop in part of the factory. Through large windows, visitors can see the production floor up close and experience the craftsmen’s skills, the sound of machines, and the smell of paper—elements not usually encountered in everyday life. We value this place as one where people, the community, and manufacturing naturally connect. We will continue open manufacturing while maintaining strong ties with the community.
Connecting with local culture

Participating in local festivals
We participate in local festivals and union activities and value our connection with people in the community. We also take part in school bazaars and events in Sumida and will continue moving forward together with the community.
Working with the local government

Memo Block certified as Sumida Modern

We joined the “Manufacturing Collaboration” project that began after the construction of Tokyo Skytree to promote manufacturing in Sumida. This initiative brought small factories and designers together to develop products and became a new challenge for us as well.
We also work with the local government by participating in community events and supporting public relations activities to share the appeal of manufacturing. Junior high school students in Sumida experienced our workshop, wrote about manufacturing, and the article was published in the city newsletter.
Supporting local industries

Sumida is a district where many industries come together. We believe that using each other’s strengths and supporting one another leads to a sustainable local industry.
